The Philadelphia Phillies are a baseball team who are quite popular for people who live in Pennsylvania, specifically in south Philly. They play in the National League East Conference and compete against other teams all season long for a chance to play at the big game, the World Series.
The Phillies play at Citizen Bank Park, a huge stadium usually filled with large crowds full of excitement and always rowdy fans who love their players. Something that is special about living near the big city and being a Philly sports fan is learning how passionate people can be. Philadelphia sports fans love the games, players, and it feels like they are emotionally connected to them sometimes as if they were friends outside of the professional sport.
The team has been training for the last couple of weeks in Clearwater, Florida preparing for Opening Day. The Phillies Home Opener is scheduled to be played on March 31, 2025, at home, back in Philadelphia starting at 3:05 pm against the Washington Nationals, so it should be a good game to watch and an even better game to experience in person.
Ninth grade student, Rylee Strunk is going to the game this year, and she is very excited. She thinks that the team is going to improve this year and have more success than past seasons. She says, “ I think they will do better this year due to new additions like Max Kepler and Jesus Luzardo.” Max is a new outfielder for the Phillies and Jesus is a pitcher. Ali Wertz, another freshman Philly fan, agrees with Rylee. She said, “With the new players they picked up, I think they will be a stronger team than last year.” Personally I am looking forward to the season starting and seeing what the team can accomplish this year. I have always been a Philadelphia sports fan, but baseball has always been my favorite to watch.
Many students at HAHS like baseball and enjoy watching the Phillies. Some, more than others, are extremely excited to see what their season has in store and to see how far they will go.
