College football season is coming to an end, but there is still one big game left, the National Championship. This year, college football did the playoffs and bowl games a bit differently than in years past. There was a 12 team playoff bracket. This allowed more teams to have a chance at making it to the championship. There were certainly some upsets as the playoffs played out. All four teams that had a bye in the first round lost in the quarter finals. With these losses, it meant that Penn State would play Notre Dame in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 31 in Miami, Florida. It also meant that Ohio State would play Texas in the GoodYear Cotton Bowl Classic on January 1 in Arlington, Texas.
These two games were very crucial because whoever won, would make it to the National Championship. After a very close game between Penn State and Notre Dame, the Irish did win by a field goal. The final score was 27-24. As for Ohio State and Texas, the Buckeyes did win the game by two touchdowns in the end. The final score of this game was 28-14. There was certainly some disappointment by fans of Penn State and Texas, but also excitement for those teams who won.
The National Championship will be held on January 20, in Atlanta, Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. This stadium is where the NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons play. At this game, fans will see Ohio State and Notre Dame play to win the Championship. Fans will get to see the Ohio State and Notre Dame bands play during half time. The biggest question now is who will end up winning? “I think Notre Dame is going to win, but Ohio State will be a challenge,” said Ana Smith. Ana grew up being a fan of Notre Dame. Big time Penn State fan Brady Breininger thinks differently. “Unfortunately, I think Ohio State will win because they seem to be getting hot at the right time,” said Brady. It will certainly be interesting to see who wins this big game.
