The painting elective here at HAHS, Mrs. Dommel, the teacher of the class, has been teaching art for 21 years now. The class has been described as a fun elective where students can express themselves by using acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint for traditional methods. The students have access to ipads and art computers for digital applications like Photoshop and Procreate. The class assignments range from portraits to perspective art, some of which are figures, landscapes, and non objective art.
Students have said that they feel as if Mrs. Dommel’s room is a safe and comfortable environment. They have also described the class as carefree and inspiring. Many participants in the elective appreciate the fact that they can move and improve at their own pace without judgement.
Mrs. Dommel stated that the difficulty of assignments is based on the level of the artist. This gives students the opportunity to grow and be the best they can be.
