January is the month of new beginnings, to start off fresh after a long year of working hard and living an eventful life. Every January, on New Year’s Day, people all over the world create a set of goals to complete, similar to a bucket list. It is their goals for themselves, to see if they can make them come true during the new year, and they make it a tradition to check off every bulletin on their list to see, by the end of the year, what they got completed.
January is not only the beginning of a new year, but it is also the U.S. Get Organized month, a month surrounded by decluttering not only one’s home, but every aspect of a person’s life. U.S. Get Organized month promotes time management and organizing and prioritizing productivity and scheduling and making sure everything is aligned and not all mixed together or all over the place.
Sophomore Sheila Kern never knew that January was U.S. Get Organized month, and shared some of her good habits to stay organized. “I make sure I set reminders for my homework, and I also write my assignments in my school agenda. I make sure to set a specific time to complete any homework I have so that way I do not have to worry about it being late or missing.” Sheila Kern admits that she is disorganized when it comes to school. “When I am absent, I sometimes fall behind and have to ask my friends for help. But I make sure I’m caught up and doing all of the necessary things to do my best in school.”
Sophomore Kaylum Riegal also was not aware that it was U.S. Get Organized month. Kaylum is often unorganized. “I usually have all of my assignments in a physical folder. Same with my bookmarks tab on Google.” Kaylum says he is good based on his memory alone and he knows where everything is, despite how cluttered it might sound. “That’s how I’ve always operated. If it works, it works!”
Everyday people, even students, get organized in different ways. Whether giving every subject its own section or having a one-for-all folder, there is no wrong way to organize, as long as it works for them.
