A mock election is an election usually used for educational or political reasons, a way to hear and understand the opinion of others. HAHS held its own mock election on November 5.
The election took one month of planning and was set up in the LGI. Mr. Haegele, a social studies teacher, set up the election with the help of Mrs. Benvenuto who is also a Social Studies teacher and the rest of the social studies department. Haegele decided to hold the election because HAHS had not had one before. Another reason is because it was a civics activity to engage in the election process, and it allowed students to get a first hand experience at how the voting process works in the real world.
Once all classes were finished voting the votes were counted. Donald J. Trump won. The majority votes were counted by Google, however an inquisitive freshman, named Liam Barrett found the percentiles by breaking down and seeing how many people were in each class and factored the votes by 60. By doing that Liam found the electoral college! Overall, the mock election was a very interesting way to help students better understand the election and voting process.
