On October 28th, the famous Tyler, The Creator dropped his newest album Chromakopia. In his career, Tyler has written and dropped seven albums, the earliest being Goblin and the latest being Chromakopia. His previous album was released in 2021 under the name Call Me If You Get Lost. Chromakopia is a soundtrack featuring 14 songs, the most popular songs being St. Chroma, Darling, I and Like Him. All three songs have other featured artists, ranging from Daniel Caesar to Lola Young.
The first song on the track is probably the most well known out of all the tracks. Almost the whole song of St. Chroma was released with a music video to be a teaser for the whole album. Throughout the song, the lyrics “Can you feel the light inside?” are interpreted as Tyler’s way of encouraging others, essentially saying can the person feel the fire inside of them or that drive inside of them. The song has a constant beat that makes people’s heads nod and feet tap against the floor. The vocals done by Daniel Caesar are spectacular, highlighting that almost holy glow and essence of the song.
Another song on the album, Darling, I, is a testament about love. The song reminds listeners of a confession to the person he loves, claiming over and over again that he keeps falling in love. Despite his confession, Tyler mentions “I can’t sign the dotted line, just how long is forever?” This line suggests that even though his love for this person is so strong, he is still afraid of full commitment. The featured artist on the track is Teezo Touchdown, who is known most for his R&B style of music. Many listeners resonate with this song, understanding what it feels like to love someone so much but being too afraid to commit to that one person.
The final most popular song is Like Him, a song that makes many listeners tear up and even cry. This song is about Tyler’s father and their strained relationship. Growing up, his mother told him that his father did not want him and did not want to establish a relationship with him at all. Recently, Tyler’s mother revealed that his father did actually want to be a part of his life but would not allow him out of her own greed and petty reasons. The lyrics “So do I look like him?” are spoken almost directly to Tyler’s mother, asking if he looks like his father at all. Ranging from his physical appearance to his characteristics, he feels a piece of him is missing because of his lack of a father-son relationship. Lola Young, the featured artist, brings in an almost child-like vocal set to the song, constantly singing the lyrics “Do I look like him?” which represents child and teen Tyler asking his mother if he looks like him.
Chromakopia was an album that many fans have been waiting years for. It has a variety of beats and vibes to it, but they all coexist and almost match each other perfectly. Other songs on the album that are extremely well liked are NOID, Sticky, and Rah Tah Tah. Each song is amazing and allows for many different connections between the creator himself and his listeners and fans. Jordan Cunkle, a sophomore at Hamburg Area High School loved the album, rating it a 10/10. Jordan and many other Tyler, The Creator fans would recommend others to listen to the album and find a song they can relate to. More information about Chromakopia can be found at www.Chromakopia.com.
