Kayla Kline is a junior at Hamburg Area high school who attends Berks Career and Technology Center (BCTC) every afternoon. She takes her four core classes at the high school, as well as a wellness class, and then goes to the career center for the rest of the day. BCTC is a school any student can apply for, and it has many different programs for students to participate in.
Kayla goes to BCTC for Residential Painting and Interior Design, also known as Painting and Decorating. She has been attending BCTC since her sophomore year and plans to continue throughout the end of her senior year of high school. She decided to go to BCTC since she likes the idea of hands-on work more than taking other elective classes at the high school, and she feels it is a great way to get a head start for when she graduates. She plans on using everything she is learning at BCTC when she graduates since she wants to become an interior decorator.
Kayla states, “I have learned how to paint a room and refurnish furniture. I also have learned plenty of design elements that will be useful when designing and decorating. Currently, I am painting a room and refurnishing a workbench.” Kayla also emphasizes that the BCTC environment is very enjoyable. She says everyone is very nice and supportive, and she always gets a lot done while having a lot of fun.
Kayla says she would recommend BCTC to any student who is interested. She thinks that it is a great way to prepare for the workforce, especially if what you go to BCTC for is what someone wants to do when they graduate.
