During Thanksgiving, everyone has their own traditions for their favorite foods or what they have every year at a Thanksgiving dinner. Some people get together and everyone contributes, or there is only one family or person that makes everything. Some people also cook everything homemade, or it is store bought.
As a majority here at HAHS, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are a favorite among students. One student, Lydia Fultz, was one of the many that chose mashed potatoes, and potatoes in general, as her favorite food. She states, “I really enjoy all ways of eating potatoes since they are just so yummy.” Even though it may seem a little strange, she says, “They are my ride or die.” She always has this every year at her Thanksgiving dinner, and if it is not there in some form, it does not feel normal to her.
Another student, Molly Fox, decided on mac and cheese and biscuits as her favorites. Molly says, “My grandma makes the best homemade mac and cheese, but we get our biscuits from the Pillsbury cans.” This is considered a tradition in her household for these two signature foods to always be there.
No matter the cost or effort put into making a Thanksgiving dinner unique to a family, everyone has their own ways of enjoying the holidays with their loved ones. Even if there is not anything special in the foods that are made, it is the people that are there and who they are thankful for that make it particular to a single family.
