At HAHS there are many traditions that make it such a great high school to attend. One of them is fall door decorating, a contest to see which homeroom can decorate their door the best. We do this to encourage students to engage in hawk pride and brighten up the school spirit. Mrs. McCarthy says, “We do things like this to increase school spirit and teamwork, specifically to brighten up the place.”
Each year has a different theme that is usually chosen by Mrs Stump-Dalton and Mrs. Hardick. This year’s theme is Follow the Yellow Brick Road to celebrate the new movie Wicked coming out. Despite the theme being about a movie, Mrs. Hardick says, “The theme includes Hamburg in some way every year.” So that will be put into consideration when judging the doors.
The rules for the contest were simple but very important. The door must include The Wizard of Oz theme, hawk spirit (School colors and hawk), and be creative and original. Judging of the doors took place on November 1 at 3 pm once all students had been dismissed
Coming in third was Mrs. King’s homeroom. Just 0.2 points off from the win, Mrs. Dommel’s homeroom came in second. The winner of the best door went to Mrs. Deitz’s homeroom for the second year in a row. The prize Mrs. Deits homeroom won were donuts for everyone in her homeroom.
