Roblox, a game available for Android devices, Apple devices, PC, and consoles, is focused on entertaining teenagers. With the vast variety of games within the game, students at HAHS and across the world are able to find something that entices them. The game has options for many kids, teens, and adults, with dress up games or strategy games, or just something designed to stop what free time people have. Among teens, the most popular game is Dress to Impress, a game where people create outfits, show them off on a catwalk, and they vote for who has the best outfit out of the number of people in the server.
Though the app itself is free, people can purchase Robux, the in-game currency, to add to their experience if they wish. Roblox games are designed to be completed for free, but there are advantages that some can gain with Robux, like in Dress to Impress, students can purchase a VIP clothing area to upgrade what outfits they create. Game passes, an in-game item that Roblox players can purchase for Robux, is how students can gain advantages like VIP or other perks that one can not get for free.
Sid Bonning, a sophomore at HAHS, says their favorite game on Roblox is Dress to Impress and that “I have been playing since I was seven, but I do not play often.” Their younger brother got them into playing Roblox, along with gameplays they watch on YouTube. Sid says, “I would definitely still play it if the app and the games stopped updating,” since Roblox has to keep up with the changing world and bug fixes. If Sid could make a new game, they would make a game with a bunch of different games inside of it so people would not have to leave the app to play a different game.
Landon Poulios, a sophomore at HAHS says that his favorite game is also Dress to Impress, and he has been playing Roblox since 2016. He says that he would play Dress to Impress more often if it stopped updating frequently, since there are so many new clothes and people can not adjust to the new items easily. If Landon could create a game on Roblox, he would create a horror game that makes students think through their decisions through a bunch of tricks and puzzles. Also, if he had 10,000 Robux, he would buy all of the Dress to Impress game passes, and a Spider-Man costume for his in-game character.
