Matt Bertschy is the new transportation director for Hamburg Area School District and has been in the district for 17 years. Originally working in technology and then worked his way up to Network Systems Manager where he oversaw the inner workings of the district’s technology.
Goals that Mr.Bertschy has as the new transportation director are to use his tech background to integrate existing bus routes to have portal access. This would allow parents to see up-to-date information instead of sending letters out the old-fashioned way. He also would like to create a robust training program with the help of staff and faculty to educate our students more about bus rules and bus safety.
One of the good things about being the transportation director is that Mr. Bertschy feels like he is contributing to not only children but also the community by getting students to school safely everyday and making things easier for students’ parents. Some challenging things about being the transportation director are that it is an all day, everyday job because bus routes can change constantly or if there is an accident.
Mr. Bertschy switched positions from tech to the transportation director because he wanted to advance and challenge himself with different opportunities, and he wanted to try something different. Replacing Kim Byassee was no easy task as she had big shoes to fill. Mr.Bertschy would not have gotten this far without Lisa Welgo. She has been invaluable to the district, and he only made it because of her help. The Registration and Transportation secretary has helped him get where he is to this day in his new position.
