At Hamburg Area High School, students are offered many clubs that they can join. One specific club that is important to recognize is the HAHS LEO Club. Leo Club is the high school version of the many local Lions Clubs that are found all over the world. The HAHS Leo Club is supported by many local Lions Clubs such as Hamburg, Shoemakersville, Straustown, and Shartlesville. This club is significant in the community as its members volunteer at local events to assist when needed.
Lions Club International is a worldwide organization and website that works to spread support and kindness worldwide. The website’s statistics state, “Our association is made up of 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs who bring hands and hearts to the communities we serve in nearly every country on earth.” The Lions Club and neighboring Leo Club’s overall mission is to strengthen communities and provide helpful services worldwide while encouraging peace.
The Leo club meetings occur on Club Day B’s in the library and the club advisor is Mrs. McCarthy. The current club officers for this year are juniors Tia Adam, who is president; Morgan Riegel, who is vice president; and myself, who is secretary. As well as, sophomore Kaylum Riegel as treasurer.
This club is always looking for new participants to help with upcoming events as Leo club is very active in many school and community events. The club is known in school for selling cotton candy at May Day and doing face painting at football games. Overall it is a great club that focuses on helping the community and strengthening the student body at Hamburg Area High School.
