This school year, Hamburg Area High School has welcomed Mrs. Janine Bashore to the main office. She is one of the secretaries in the office that help HAHS run smoothly every day. So far, she is really enjoying this position.
Mrs. Bashore attended HAHS and then went on to earn a degree in business at Penn State University. Before arriving at Hamburg, she worked at the Berks County Intermediate Unit in the kids’ prison for five years and the mental health program for 13 years. Following that position she worked at Fleetwood Middle School for 10 years as a secretary in the counseling office.
There were already people that Mrs. Bashore knew at HAHS. What really made her interested in this position was that it was for a 10 month period. She has grandchildren across three different states, so having some time off to travel and visit them is very important to her. Mrs. Bashore enjoys being around teenagers and getting to interact with them as they pass through the office is her favorite part.
The main office can get very busy at times, but Mrs. Bashore is able to handle it well with the daily tasks she does. She is in charge of all of the attendance here at the high school. Mrs. Bashore has to mark the students that are absent, late, or have early dismissals. She also takes care of excuse cards and marking when students have excused absences. Another thing Mrs. Bashore does is post the morning announcements on the high school website daily.
Outside of school, Mrs. Bashore has many hobbies. She really enjoys the outdoors so some of her hobbies include kayaking, wakeboarding, skiing, camping, and hiking with her german shepherd. Additionally, Mrs. Bashore enjoys attending the Bridge Church and working with kids of any age. Her favorite time of year is Christmas where she holds a dinner and goes out with a group to Christmas carol.
Mrs. Bowen also works in the HAHS main office. She says the entire office has been very lively since Mrs. Bashore has joined them. Mrs. Bowen explained that “Mrs. Bashore’s personality, friendliness, and ability to interact with others is very infectious!”
