Homecoming was a fun time for students at Hamburg Area High School to let loose and have some fun while still in a school setting. Every year many students come to dance, relax with their friends, and take a break every once in a while to sit out, snack, and chat. The homecoming dance is an event that is easy for the school to put together but also meant to be an entertaining and enjoyable experience for its students. Of course, it cannot always be perfect, and there will always be room for improvement.
Sophomore Dakota Schneider said, “The music was pretty good. I liked the fact that students could request songs, but not all the songs being requested were played.” The students were offered a small variety of snacks and drinks to keep them going throughout the three hours. “I think the food was pretty good and the prices were reasonable and affordable,” said Dakota. Dakota also included that the teachers did a very good job of watching over the students while still letting them have fun on their own. “Overall, homecoming was so much fun. I loved singing and dancing with my friends and I think everyone had an amazing night.”
Another sophomore, Kaylum Riegel, said, “The music was okay but it was super loud.” The music could have been pretty loud for such a small room, causing some students to complain about having ear problems the next day. “I didn’t have a problem with anyone there. My overall opinion was that it was okay.” The teachers did a good job on keeping everything under control while also letting the students party around with their friends and/or partners. Homecoming was generally a great and fun night, but there could have been a few improvements to benefit the students.
Mrs. Trubilla, Junior Class Advisor, said that the homecoming dances’ goal is to raise money for the Junior class. Therefore, this is how the prices of food and drinks are decided. Along with money, Mrs. Trubilla said that the DJ is decided based on prices, but they are always open to suggestions. Students could request a DJ they believe would be a good fit for their community of students. Along with the safety of students during the homecoming dance, Mrs. Trubilla stated, “We provide a certain number of chaperones per number of students along with outside security. If conflict was to ever break out, administration would assess it and the student would be removed.” It is good to have a certain number of chaperones, including outside security, to monitor students to prevent any sort of fight or conflict.
