Dr. Beissel has been appointed new superintendent as of July 1 when Dr. Mextorf retired. Dr. Beissel is a former teacher, coach, and now principal. As the superintendent his job is to be the “CEO” of the school. This means he is in charge of all day to day decisions and then he reports to the board of school directors.
He applied for the position of superintendent in February when it was posted that the position was open.
As superintendent he spends his time traveling to all the schools in the district, including two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Dr. Beissel makes a great effort to check in and go to all of the schools in the district at least once a week. “I love Hamburg as a community, and I just want to be able to contribute to it in some way,” shared Dr. Beissel.
A challenge he has faced is getting used to the new job. He plans on making HASD a better, more comforting district. Throughout the years of him working as a teacher, coach, and principal, he has gathered the skills to be more than qualified for the position which also allows him to see all points of view of the district and to be more understanding of all types of circumstances. All this being said it gives him a chance to see and lead with all perspectives and be an amazing new superintendent.
