Mr. Haegele has been teaching many subjects and grade levels for nine years. He has taught everything from AP gov. to 6-8 social studies. After the retirement of former civics and military history teacher, Mr. Zimmerman, Mr. Haegele, who was at the time teaching 9th grade English, was offered to take over his position. “I would have interviewed for it anyways because I love history and talking to students about things that matter in their everyday life,” Haegele states.
The transition came easy to Mr. Haegele, who thanks the social studies department, specifically Mrs. Benvenuto, for being so helpful in getting him ready and the information needed to start the year. However, it has not all been easy. Mr. Haegele’s hardest task is “making an environment that is totally politically neutral.” He says, “being in election year there is more polarization and conversation can get fielded more easily.” However, being interactive and connecting with students has always come easy to him so this should not be a large hurdle for him to overcome.
Aside from teaching, Mr. Haegele also participates and volunteers in many other activities. A list of his activities would include being the sophomore class advisor, a volunteer assistant coach for junior high wrestling, and assistant coach for varsity track and field, co-advisor of the Audio Tech. club, a co-host for Java Jam, and being the founder and co-host of the HAHS car show. Mr. Haegele likes to keep busy and finds it easy to balance all of these responsibilities by utilizing time management skills, setting deadlines, collaborating with others, and delegating responsibilities, “I have a good support system at home, my wife helps out with anything she can,” Haegele makes sure to balance his professional life with his personal life so he does not miss out on either. HAHS is very lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Haegele who can and is willing to do any task thrown at him.
