Othello, was born June 24, 2024, in New Jersey and is a black lab in training to be a Seeing Eye dog. The Seeing Eye is a “philanthropic organization” whose mission is to enhance the independence and self confidence of blind people.
Othello is at the high school for one year so he can meet new people and be trained to be a Seeing Eye dog and to be in as many social settings as possible. He is here to be trained to walk on shiny floors and crowded hallways. He will also be exposed to loud noises, bells ringing, prep rallies, sporting events, bus rides, fire drills and the cafeteria.
Mrs. McCarthy in the library is Othello’s raiser and she has very specific rules to follow for his training. She takes him home on nights and weekends where he plays with Wolfgang and Molly and learns house manners.
After one year he will be going back to New Jersey to finish his training to learn things like how to cross a street when a car is coming.
