With the summer coming to an end, so are some student’s summer responsibilities. Many students around the age of 13-16 try and get a job over the summer for either spending money or for saving.
Junior Maddie Handwerk had a summer job at Rita’s in Hamburg. Making treats such as scooping Italian ice, making coffees, and preparing custard desserts. She decided to get a job so that she could have workforce experience and have something to do over the summer. Maddie put her money into two different categories of spending and saving. Over the summer she worked part time and she will continue to work part-time over school.
Another junior Bethany Stufflet did not have a job over the summer because she had no ride. Besides that, she did want a summer job, but it was not her first priority because it gave her the opportunity to have a fun summer for one more year before being stuck to a job next summer. With not having a job, Bethany got bored easily which would led to her cleaning her room, going through stuff, and hanging out with her friends.
I also had a summer job that consisted of working at Wolfe Dye and Bleach in Shoemakersville. I folded T-shirts, hoodies, shorts, sweatpants, and blankets that were sent out to different companies after they had them dyed and cut. My goal for a job is that I will be able to hopefully afford a car before I graduate even if it goes slowly. In order to save for a car, I have my money put aside into a savings account that I have access to all the time if I ever need to spend it, but I usually resist spending any of it. I worked part time over the summer and followed my same morning routine for school as the start times ended up being the same, seven AM. With school starting I will still continue to work after school for a couple hours half of the week.
Summer jobs can be very helpful for students as they can give them experience in the future and help them grow some skills that can shape their future. But also for students jobs hopefully are not a main priority due to it still being their time to have fun and enjoy life.
