Transitioning to a new school can be hard. Every year students all across the world are transitioning to new schools whether it is due to a move that they have recently gone through or simply just moving from one building to the next. Some say one of the biggest transitions for students grades K-12 is going from middle school to high school, and often times students may fear being the youngest in a building full of young adults.
Freshman Graylea Knight says, “It is a different kind of change transitioning to high school compared to other levels of school, but not necessarily the worst when you get into the groove of things.” She believes that not really knowing what to expect to begin with was stressful, but it was not as bad as she thought after she got used to things.
Freshman Maya Fultz says, “It was not as exciting as I thought it would be. It is stressful trying to get from class to class on time, especially when they are on opposite sides of the building.” She likes having a little bit more freedom and trust from teachers, but she feels it is definitely intimidating being the youngest in the building.
So, maybe it is not the fact that the transition to high school is harder than other transitions, but rather just a transition of the unknown. Many students do not know what to expect when moving up to high school, so let us make the transition less stressful by making them more informed before even making that big leap. In order to do that, people can help make sure that the transition from school to school is talked about at a younger age.
