As the school year starts, juniors and seniors are getting excited for the upcoming Powderpuff game, held yearly at the high school. The game will be held on September 18 at 7:30 PM at the high school stadium. This is a flag football game in which the upperclassmen compete against each other. The girls that sign up play flag football in the game, and the boys that sign up are cheerleaders for the game. There are also football players and cheerleaders that can sign up to coach. It is a very well loved event that takes place at Hamburg Area High School. At last year’s Powderpuff game, the juniors dominated the seniors with a score of 7-0. Even though the seniors usually win, both teams have a chance to pull out a victory for their class.
Senior Amelia Gassert, who played in the game last year, is very excited for this year’s game. Amelia thinks Powderpuff is a great way to bring the grade together and she loves the school spirit that comes from it. To prepare for the game, Amelia says the seniors schedule a certain number of practices, and the coaches will set up plays to help them get fully prepared. She says, “I decided to play this year because I had so much fun last year. It really is something you need to experience at least once in your high school career.” Her favorite memory from her junior year Powderpuff game was when the juniors scored the touchdown and the whole entire grade was cheering. She says it is a moment she will never forget.
Junior Faith Atkinson is also looking forward to playing in this year’s Powderpuff game. Faith says she is excited for Powderpuff. She says she is stretching and building up her endurance for the game. Faith says, “I decided to play this year because I think it would be a fun opportunity to be involved. I was hoping to play any position that did not necessarily involve catching the ball, because I am better at throwing it.”
