The summertime is a time of leisure for students to relax and take a break from their studies at school. The once freshman-to-sophomores at Hamburg take a long summer vacation after their first ever year of high school, and for most of the students it was either a rough year or a tiring year. The summertime is a point where students can go on vacation and relax, where they can transition into the next phase of their educational lives with ease.
Sophomore Kaylum Riegal went on a five day cruise to the island of Bermuda. He went with three of his family members: mother, his mother’s boyfriend, and grandmother. “My grandmother actually surprised the three of us,” Kaylum says. “She bought her own tickets and she didn’t tell any of us.” Kaylum and his family went to several attractions such as snorkeling, where they got to explore shipwrecks and the coral reefs at the bottom of the ocean floor. They also got to try the delicious native food in Bermuda and then went on long moped rides around the island itself. When they all went to the beach, Kaylum claimed that “The water was so much clearer,” and that he could never look at another beach besides Sea Glass Beach in Bermuda the same. “It was kind of windy, but that did not affect the beautiful scenery that surrounded us. If I could go again, I would in a heartbeat. It’s definitely one of my top vacation spots now.”
Another Sophomore, Lilly Gibson, went to a beach as well but stayed in the country. She and another Sophomore, Jordan Cunkle, went to Ocean City, Maryland, with Jordan’s grandparents. They frequently go on vacations with each other during the summer. Lilly and Jordan swam at the beach and relaxed on the sand. Lilly Gibson shared, “We got amazing food during our stay that was so good. The UV rays were extremely hot, so I got a terrible sunburn. Thankfully once it went away I got a great tan.” Lilly Gibson and Jordan Cunkle had a great time. “I love spending time with Jordan,” Lilly says, “and the beach was very exciting and fun. It really washes away all your worries.” Lilly Gibson and Jordan Cunkle are already planning to go twice to Ocean City, Maryland next year for their next summer vacation
In all, it is safe to say that some students from the Sophomore class had great stories to share from their summer adventures this year.
