This year, Hamburg Area High School celebrated bringing your kid to work on Thursday, April 25. Participating teachers introduced their children to their everyday responsibilities, as well as to the students they see every day. The kids were given fun activities to do in the different classes they visited and ended the day with some snacks and starred in their own TV broadcasting.
Mrs. Texter is an English teacher, but she is also a mother. She brought her daughter, Rose, to celebrate the holiday. She shared, “My favorite part was the video at the end.” The kids were all well entertained with acting and watching themselves surrounded by the unique backgrounds on the green screen. “Rose enjoyed playing with other kids who she’s heard me talking about.” The activities were a good way to introduce kids with parents in the same career field.
Ms. Menning is a History teacher who is also raising a son. She brought her son, Joey, to enjoy the day with. Ms. Mennig shared, “My favorite part was him being a part of what I do everyday.” The day also functioned as a way of showing kids how different high school can be and what responsibilities come with being a teacher. While he did not do many activities in other classrooms and stayed with his mom’s classes most of the day, Ms. Menning shared, “He loved running the board and the computer part of the game my class played.” The kids were included in a lot of new experiences and welcomed by high schoolers.
Mrs. Trubilla is also an English teacher and mother. She brought her daughter, Charlotte, for the fun experiences. Mrs. Trubilla shared, My favorite part of the day was that Charlotte was so excited about school. She loved high school and wanted to come with me the next day.” The holiday is a fun way of warming younger kids up to something, like high school, that might scare them or seem confusing. Mrs. Trubilla also said, “Charlotte’s favorite part of the day was music class because she got to play the piano for everyone.” The day also served as a way for the kids to show off their skills and abilities to new people.
Overall, the bring your kid to work day presented by Hamburg Area High School seemed successful and presented a lot of good outcomes.
