Ms. Kelly has been working at HAHS for 28 years. She likes the flexibility to try new things, and she gets support from the administration which is very helpful. She enjoys getting new students each year and working with them, as well as establishing positive relationships with the students. Ms. Kelly says teaching has become very challenging since Covid. It has been more stressful to try to reach the students and deal with all the distractions, such as being obsessed with phones, lack of communication and lack of social skills because of Covid.
Ms. Kelly believes that she gets along with almost all of the students. If all the students are respectful and show her that they can be cooperative, she can teach her students life skills that they need. Ms. Kelly believes that she can be a strict teacher sometimes because she wants her students to learn life skills and leave class everyday knowing that they learned new things. Letting students get away with turning in late assignments does not help them learn the skills they need to succeed. Although students go through things at home, she is very understanding if students need time to complete assignments. She can become flexible for late work.
Ms. Kelly recalls that she gets along quite well with the teachers. She always tries to express her appreciation for the staff, secretaries and all of the other staff she has contact with. Ms. Kelly loves to teach in the wellness department, and she thinks she has made the right decision.
Ms. Kelly went to West Chester University to earn her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Where people study human movement and increase people’s overall strength and stamina.
Ms. Kelly used to work at Reading High School before Hamburg. Kelly worked as a playground leader and as a coach at field hockey camps during the summers of her college years. Ms. Kelly has always been interested in working in the wellness department because she has always been active. She always knew she wanted to teach so it made sense to become a wellness teacher. Ms. Kelly enjoys working with students and serving as a positive role model for students.
