The Day of Silence is an annual event to spread awareness about the hard effects of bullying on the LGBT+ community. This year, it falls on April 12. Some students take a vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBT+.
Mrs. Eshbach said that others should participate in the Day of Silence because “More bystanders need to become upstanders. LGBTQ+ youth need support and allies!”
Mrs. Eshbach, the GSA advisor stated, “Many kids in this school are LGBT+, believe it or not. And by contributing to the Day of Silence, you will be actively supporting and standing by kids around the world, and maybe even some of your friends and family! Bullying or harassment of LGBTQ+ people is wrong! We need to remember this each day, not just one day a year.”
