Alvernia University is preparing for its annual spring college fair on March 5th, which is hosting students from over 15 local Berks County area high schools. This event will take place from 8:35 am to 10:50 am, and any student can go on this field trip. They would need just to have a field trip form signed and handed in before the 5th of March, for students to get these permission slips, they will need to get available ones from the Counseling Office since Mrs. Wyles Herbert and Mrs. Machamer are the organizers of this trip. This university fair cannot open doors to just Alvernia but other colleges, and many who will have admissions representation are attending. This field trip affords students the opportunity to connect with multiple colleges in one event hosted by Alvernia. Otherwise, students would need to register and confirm a date and time to visit colleges, which may be one college visit on that date.
This will be an exciting opportunity to network not only with college representatives but with students as well. “I am most excited to have an opportunity to meet with and learn about different colleges because I know it will help me make the right choice for my post-secondary education,” stated Junior Hannah Kristiniak. Some things students can learn through college fair representatives are the program of studies they offer, financial aid, admission requirements, admission deadlines, campus life, and activities.
Some things to consider might be the size of the campus; for example, students may prefer a large urban university, while others may be more focused on a smaller one. “Some stuff I am looking for is a medium-sized school in PA, not too far from home, and has a good education program since I want to be a high school teacher,” mentioned Hannah Kristiniak. Smaller campuses may work better for some students because the education may seem more personalized. On a larger campus, students may feel like they are number one out of 150 students and may feel a disconnect. Some other things students may consider are whether they will live in a dorm or an apartment during their college years and how they will think about being away from home during their first semester.
Junior Madison Redding stated, “I plan on going to the University of South Carolina and studying something in forensics or TV/film studies. Although I am unsure if I will change my mind when I go to this college fair since I am very headstrong about what I want to do.” Students who will be attending this field trip can be unsure of what they want to do, but some can have a pretty set goal of what they want to do, and with this field trip, students can experience what other colleges might have to offer, which may change their minds.
