Hamburg Area High School hosted a Krampus Kino as a fundraiser for the German club who sold Haribo gummies and Fanta, which originate in Germany. The Krampus Kino was held on December 6, right after school because of it being Sankt Nikolaus Day in Germany. The date was also chosen so students in any extracurriculars could be able to come as well. Krampus is a half-man, half-goat, who punishes naughty children during the Christmas season.
A pronunciation wheel was also created where students put money in to try and pronounce German words for a draw to win the money. Mr. Kline also became Krampus for the afternoon, spending the time terrorizing the students who participated. During this Krampus Kino, students could color an Advent Kalender, watch the Brothers of Grimm movie, or just eat snacks and hang out with their friends. Students in the German club and outside of the German club participated. Posters were also placed around the halls prior to the event. The German club was able to raise a fair amount of money from the students that participated in this event.
Elaina Hess, a student that went to this Krampus Kino, really enjoyed that there was a student dressed as Saint Nick, Emma Moylan, and Elaina also enjoyed watching Mr. Kline moving around and bugging the students. Another student, Andrew Koval, said he “enjoyed the atmosphere that his and his fellow German club classmates created.” Madden Dietrich, another student in the German Club, thought it was extremely fun and she had a great time.
