Without a doubt, the HAHS guidance office is one of the busiest places in the high school, dealing with student transcripts, transfer students, and confidential student information. To help manage the large workload, Mrs. Fink, working as the secretary, manages most student files, counselor meetings, phone calls, and sending final transcripts for seniors to go to college. A typical workday for her never looks the same from day to day, as there is heaps of work to complete. Mrs. Fink says she “like[s] to be busy” so this job is the perfect fit for her.
Originally, when Mrs. Fink graduated from Kutztown High School in 1980, she did not want to go to college. Her objectives for post-high-school life were to enter the workforce and become a mother. She had two wonderful daughters, but as they grew up and needed less personal care, Mrs. Fink looked for a job. Initially, in 1999 she was hired as a substitute teacher at HAHS. In 2007 she took on her current position as the guidance office secretary from working as the building clerk.
Mrs. Fink’s biggest regret is not going to school to be a nurse, and taking the necessary classes in high school. For a while, she worked in a nursing home and loved it, but never went further with that passion. Because of this experience, she says to any questioning high school students, “It is not easy and you have to make your life what you want it to be: positive, happy, interesting. When you get those chances, I say take them. Do as much as you can!”
