The most recent fundraiser to support the musical was a 1950s-themed dance called a Sock Hop held on October 21 from 6 to 8 pm in the new gym. The attendees were allowed to dress in 1950s costumes and apparel. Mr. Barry, the director, wanted to raise money with a similar theme to the musical that was taking place. However, the dance was restricted to musical kids and their families only.
Mrs. Jackson loved seeing Mr. and Mrs. Bucheit dancing together. The students were dancing with their relatives and everyone was having a good time. Mr. Laughlin set up fancy lights and was the DJ for the night playing songs such as Those Magic Changes, Twist and Shout, and Another Saturday Night. The Transition Academy Class made chocolate-covered pretzels and there were Root Beer floats served.
Selena Henne, a senior, and Mrs. MacAffee in the musical, commented that she loved spending time with her friends at the dance. The dancing was fun and upbeat, and she was able to line dance and do the jitterbug.
The fundraiser was meant to have a similar effect to the character breakfast from last year. The directors of the musical are happy with the results and are excited for the upcoming shows.
