Kaeli Cox – 11
Kaitlyn Mengel is a junior at Hamburg Area High School. She is involved in field hockey where she plays defense and occasionally lower mid, and track and field where she throws shot put, discus, and javelin.
Katie has a favorite class that she most looks forward to, and shared, “My favorite class of the day is American Cultures with Mr. Kline. He keeps everyone entertained and engaged, and since it’s in the middle of my day, I am re-energized for the remainder of my classes.” Katie is in Mr. Kline’s fifth period PS American Cultures class. Some of the entertaining elements Katie is referring to are turn and talks, buzzer trivia, reenactments and demonstrations of famous events, and more. These activities help Katie participate and be focused on the topic she is learning.
While American Cultures is Katie’s favorite class, her favorite subject overall is Science. She said, “I think I am relatively the best at any type of Science. I’ve always been drawn to Forensics specifically, but I’m naturally good at Science in general.” Katie shows how students’ favorite classes do not have to determine their favorite subject in school.
Outside of school, Katie likes to engage in some of her favorite hobbies. She recommended, “I like to hang out with my friends outside of school. I also like to listen to music because it distracts me from school stress.” Katie shares how while she may enjoy some parts of school, it is still a very stressful part of life. Her favorite activities outside of school also show how some students like to spend their free time and relax.
Katie also plays field hockey. She shared, “I love field hockey because I love the game itself and I love being able to create bonds with my teammates and playing with them.” She also does track. She said, “As for track, I love the combination of individuality and teamwork. I also love cheering on my friends.”
The final fun fact about Katie includes her favorite movie. She shared, “My favorite movie is Tangled, and I don’t necessarily have a specific reason as to why. It’s always been my go-to and has always been my comfort movie. I’ll forever argue it’s the best Disney movie.” Disney movies are very popular and students often associate a certain one as their comfort movie. Katie’s pick is a great one and students can agree with her reasoning for picking it.
