Halloween is when kids go around trick or treating to get candy. Haunted houses are a big hit along with apple cider. The history of Halloween is much darker than most people think.
Freshman, Kaylea Detweiler said she loves Halloween. She said, “I don’t know, my family has celebrated it since I could remember. I love candy and I am dressing up as Frankenstien’s daughter this year.”
According to Britannica, the Halloween holiday has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain a pagan religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Some Pagans would sacrifice their animals to appease the spirits of the night.
