BIONIC stands for ‘Believe It Or Not I Care’ and members of the organization help new students adjust to high school as well as helping students recover from a very long break. For every new student, two BIONIC organization members follow to help adjust (unless one of the assigned members is absent that day.) New students are shown how to use the chromebooks and any of the school websites as well as how to find their classes or use a locker. The BIONIC members also follow the new student if they need help in some classes or if they need someone to sit with at lunch. BIONIC helps students adjust year-round and they alternate which members show around each student. For the first couple adjusting students, an experienced BIONIC member and a newer member help the student adjust.
Cadence Jalbert, a current senior in BIONIC, got the paper to join at the end of her freshman year because her teachers thought she would fit the job. She helped show around a student with learning disabilities and she took the time to help show them around for a month before the student caught on. She is still friends with a student she showed around, which is Samantha Gruber.
One of the school councelors at HAHS is in charge of the school’s BIONIC, and that is Mrs. Wyles-Herbert. She had started the BIONIC group for HAHS in the fall of 2020, with assistance from Mrs. Eschbach. Then, in the school years 2021 to 2022, she worked with Mr. Gaul for the school’s BIONIC group. Mrs. Ponter is assisting Mrs. Wyles-Herbert for both last year and this year.
