It is officially fall. Leaves are transitioning to orange, red, and brown, Halloween decorations are slowly creeping into homes, and pumpkin spice is filling everyone’s noses and coffee mugs. While some are looking forward to spooky season and cooler weather, others are dreading runny noses and itchy sweaters. Each season brings its positives and negatives. The diversity is what allows everyone to have a seasonal preference. While there is no final answer as to what the best season is, students at Hamburg Area High School are sharing their opinions.
58.8% of students who responded said fall was their favorite season, making it the most popular by a landslide. Students claimed fall was the best season for many reasons: fall has Halloween and Thanksgiving, they like the warm colors, or the perfect temperature. I also love seasonal stuff like pumpkin coffee and decorations. I also really enjoy watching Halloween movies. Lastly, I love the fall because the leaves start to change color and I enjoy being outside in that atmosphere.”
20.6% of responses claimed winter was the best season, making it the second most popular reply. Whether it is the snowy weather, holiday traditions, or break from school, students love winter for multiple reasons. Sheila Kern, freshman, said, “Winter has many holidays and it’s a time when people come together. It also has lots of fun things to do when it snows, or surrounding the holidays it has.” She supports the idea that winter is superior mostly for it’s abundance of holidays and celebrations.

Alannah Poulos, freshman, said, “My favorite season is spring because in school I play softball. I also enjoy spring because it gets warm again, and I ride motorcycles so that’s why my favorite season is spring. I love to be outside in warm air.” Alannah’s unordinary answer shows that the season is personal to her and allows her to enjoy things she likes.
Bella Kenyel, freshman, replied, “The thing I like about spring is that it is warmer than winter and I also like to see the flowers and trees bloom.” She supports the aesthetic and atmosphere spring brings to the world, and sees that as the most important feature.
