Students discuss their preferred pets

At Hamburg Area High School, students should know by now that we have a school dog, Raphi, that is also training to be a Seeing Eye dog. A lot of students share their love for Raphi, and their love of having a puppy be at our school for all hours of the day. But, with many opinions floating around the school, what pet is truly the most popular at Hamburg High?

Sophomore Ava Green shares her love for cats. “I like cats because they are independent, but they are therapeutic at the same time. I also like how soft and cute they are. I do love dogs too, but I think I like cats slightly more.”

Sophomore Alyssa Brensinger shares her love for dogs. “I don’t really know why I like dogs more. I think it’s because I’ve never had a cat, and I’ve always had dogs. My dog has also helped me through some stressful times. I love cats, but I don’t think I’ve had the experience of living with cats, so I’m not really sure. But I definitely prefer dogs a little more.”

Sophomore Juiliet Buckwalter shares her love for both. “I love both. I have a dog and a cat. It really depends on what I want from my pets. If I wanna play and mess around, I usually go to my dog. But If I want to relax and watch a movie or sleep, my cat usually just lays with me the entire time.”

Cats and dogs differ in personality wise and a lot of students feel that their pets relieve stress and are therapeutic to them.

Although, statistics show cats have more popularity throughout many different countries. But, here in America, we are significant dog lovers. Cats and dogs are the most popular pets in the world. Yet, cats are more independent and are generally cheaper and less demanding pets while dogs are loyal and obedient, but require more attention and exercise, including regular walks. It all depends on what you look for in your pet of choice.
