People celebrate national puppy day

Carlee Stitzel

People celebrate national puppy day on March 23 to encourage others to adopt puppies. National Puppy day was created in 2006, to show unconditional love to the cute puppies that bring so much happiness into the world.

Mrs. McCarthy did not know that this day existed and thinks that dogs are important because they can help lower people’s anxiety. Mrs. McCarthy has two dogs: Wolfgang is a German Shepherd and Raphi is a black lab and is in training to be a seeing eye dog. Mrs. McCarthy used to have five dogs and five cats.

The person who created National Puppy Day is Colleen Paige. Colleen wanted to raise awareness for puppy adoption from rescues and shelters organizations. Colleen Paige first brought adoption awareness to another level which was national and later adopted by the New York State Legislature in 2013. Colleen’s first dog was Sheltie when she was 10 years old she adopted her on August 26, 2004. Later on August 26 this became National Dog Day, but National Pet Day is Apirl 11.
