HAHS Football makes history

In the fall of 2021, Hamburg Area High School football won their first district game at home against Bermudian Springs, with a score of 31-27. By winning the first round, the Hawks had made history by becoming the first Hamburg football team to win a district game, which is a huge accomplishment in Hamburg sports. Charles Sheppard has said that making history felt “really good, and it was an unreal experience,” reiterating how much of an accomplishment this was for the HAHS football team.

Although people only see the football team playing in their uniform, no one else sees “the off field hours our athletes put into making a successful season,” says Mr. Buggy, HAHS football coach, showing how much hard work goes into having a successful season, and that it is all about the extra work nobody sees. The team had many seniors that had a huge impact on how the season unfolded, therefore causing people to wonder if their team will be as strong as last year. Although they had lost many key players, such as Diohnny Ruiz, Daregan Motto, Mitch Watt, and Charles Sheppard, class of 2023, says that he feels “like we have all the pieces of the puzzle this year,” thus explaining how the team will be as successful, or even better than last year. According to Mr. Buggy, if the HAHS football team can “lean on its leadership and remain healthy,” they have a good chance of being just as successful as last year.

Overall, the HAHS football team has had a very successful season, and they are looking to accomplish just as much or even more this fall season. As of Friday night, September 1, the Hawks went up against Warrior Run and had defeated the Traveler’s 75-21, making their record 2-1. Best of luck this year to the HAHS Football team, and seeing how the season will unfold!
