This year at the annual Taylor Seitzinger soccer tournament, which was held on September 10, the Hamburg Area’s girls soccer team really showed what they are made of and put in the grind. The team placed second over Schuylkill Haven and Brandywine, and even after a tough game against Susquenita, they managed to represent the school in an amazing way. With a current league record of 3-1, the team hopes their improvement is shown on the field and that Hamburg’s girls soccer is coming out strong this season. Even after a tough loss of nine seniors last season, the team is recovering and filling in the cracks to make this year count. The team’s spirit and motivation for this season are shown on the field and in the scoreboards.

To understand the team’s motivation, a few players shared what their goals for the season are, as well as what they have seen change on the field. “My goal is to make the playoffs, and I think the dynamics have changed since we lost seniors and gained freshmen. Overall, I think we are very close and work well on and off the field,” said Shelby Dougherty, left defender. The changes or “dynamics” the team is seeing has been very helpful in keeping their opponents guessing. Without a specific system, the team is very successful in making various moves and does not give their opponents a chance to predict what they will do.

Jenna Piltz, a forward, says, “My goal is also to make the playoffs, I think the teams really come together and bond great.” The team’s bonding and communication skills are frequently pointed out, which is a good sign, showing that the team has a real connection. The common goal of making playoffs is also a theme, which demonstrates the teams dedication and passion for their sport. Overall, people can draw the conclusion that Hamburg soccer means business and this season they plan on putting the work into their games. The season is already off to a great start and hopes to continue over the next couple games!
