Professional field experience, or PFE, is used for career exploration, job shadowing, internships, and current employment opportunities. Before retiring Mrs. Benz help the current seniors with their PFE. Mrs. Machamer also assisted in the process. PFE is where the seniors leave school early for an internship that gives insight for what their future careers would look like once leaving high school. All those choosing to participate in PFE must provided their own transportation.

Emily Smith is one of the current participants of PFE in Hamburg Area High School. She leaves after 6th period each day, around 1, but comments that not all students leave at the same time. Each PFE release time is based on that student’s schedule. Emily leaves to go to Interlace Communications in Hamburg each day. This is a digital marketing company for small businesses in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The small business does things like website design, social media management, blog posts, and the creation of other content to promote specific businesses. Interlace has several different types of clients, ranging from travelling vets to small coffee shop chains. Emily was hoping for and is getting a better understanding of the communications field and hands on experience is better than remaining in school for an extra class.

PFE is available to all approved students during their senior year and they can contact Mrs. Wyles-Herbert or Mrs, Machamer for more information.
